Amazing Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage City, its beauty has inspired and lured artists and writes for centuries, offers year round cultural festivals.  Currently “Peripheries – Sintra International Festival of Performing Arts is taking place.  This is a new Festival of theatrical performances with priority given to Portuguese speaking countries.

During June and July the  47th annual  Sintra Music and Dance Festival will again take place.  This is a very popular festival which brings well known musicians and dance troops from around the world to its stages which are set up in the Cultural Center but also in several of the palaces and other historical sites.  www.festivaldesintra.pt

Die heutige Wanderung war eine echte Herausfoderung.  Ein 6 stuendiger Marsch vom Guincho Strand nach Cabo da Roca, der westlichster Punkt von continentalem Europa.  Auf oft steilen, engen Pfade, durch eine bezaubernde Kuenstenlandschaft mit einer vielfalt von Blumen und Strauecher wanderten wir bezaubert von der herrlichen Natur.  Wir begegeneten keine andere Wanderer.  Es war unsere  Gruppe, der blaue funkelende Ozean, eine  atemberaubende  Landschaft – Felsen, Klippen, Ruinen, geheime Buchten, winzige Inseln…einfach toll!

Hello Everyone !                       vista from the coastal trail

We put in a day of serious hiking today.  A strenuous, often challenging 6 hour hike from Guincho Beach to Cabo da Roca, the western most point  in continental Europe.  We started early and the weather was glorious with temperatures ranging around 23 degrees celsius.   The scenery was mesmerizing.   The paths were narrow, often steep, through a beautiful heath like landscape with an amazing variety of flora and fauna.  We met no other hikers the entire time.  It was Mother Nature, the sparkling blue ocean, endless vistas and us.

Guincho Beach

Es gibt so viel zuberichten ueber die Gegend vom Sintra Naturpark, dass das restliche Portugal noch ne Weile warten muss!!!

Etwa 70% der Gaeste die  Colina Flora als ihr Landgasthaus, waehrend ihrem Aufenthalt im Sintra Naturpark,  waehlen  www.colinaflora.com  mieten kein Auto.  Wir hohlen die Gaeste am Flughafen in Lisabon ab.  Und von Colina Flora aus kann nach Herzenslust gewandert oder geradelt werden.  Oder man benuetzt die oeffentliche Verkehrmittel.  Die gutbediente Bushaltestelle ist nur 5 minuten zu Fuss von Colina Flora entfernt.

Ein beliebter Tagesausflug ist der herrliche Strand von Guincho, ein Lieblingsort von Surfer aller art.  Wir transportiern die Gaeste zum Stadtrand von Cascais wo man Fahrraeder umsonst geliehen bekommt.  Der Fahrrad/Wanderweg erstreckt sich ueber 7 km  der Kuenste entlang  bis zum Guincho Strand.  Dort kann man weilen, Kaffee trinken, zu Mittagessen, sich sonnen, surfen usw.  Dann radelt man zurueck bis zum Casa da Guia   www.casadaguia.com

.  Casa da Guia ist ein altes Herschaftshaus, dass heuer in nette kleine Laeden, Cafes und Restaurants verwandelt worden ist.  Eine schoene Parkanlage mit tollen Gehwege und Blick auf die Kueste gehoert dazu.  Danach radelt man weiter  bis in die historische Altstadt von Cascais, gibt die Fahraeder wieder ab, wandert durch die Gassen dieser netten historischen Stadt mit weltberuehmtem Yachtclub und nimmt den Nr. 403 Bus zurueck nach Pe da Serra und die paar Minuten Gehzeit nach Colina Flora.

Guincho Beach High Tide

There is so much to tell you about the Sintra Natural Park, so tidbits about the rest of Portugal will just have to be on hold for a while.

About 70% of our guests at Colina Flora,  www.colinaflora.com  our  “green”,m vegetarian/vegan friendly guesthouse in the heart of the Sintra Natural Park, do not hire cars.  We  arrange for airport transport and then they walk, bike and use the excellent public bus which stops nearby.  Or we shuttle them.

A  favorite day trips is to Guicho Beach, and the 7 km or so flat coastal path  to Casa da Guia on the outskirts of Cascais.  Guincho is a wonderful large expanse of sandy beach very popular with surfers of all  kinds and walkers.  Mostly we shuttle our guests down to Casa da Guia where there is a free bike lending spot.  Guests usually hop on the bikes and ride along the beautiful coastal path, stopping at Boca do Inferno, an amazing cliff/rock formation, and heading to Guincho.  On a sunny day it wonderful to hang out at Guincho.  Stop for lunch and/or drinks at one of the bars and then head back and stroll about Casa da Guia   www.casadaguia.com  which is a former manor house and park with beautiful vistas of the coast line.  The Manor-house has been converted into shops and art galleries, cafes and restaurants: a creperie, a Swedish Restaurant, several  traditional Portuguese restaurants and interesting cafes.   Then continue to ride along the coastal path into the old city center of Cascais leave the bikes at a bike collection spot near the station, stroll about the lovely historic downtown area.  Have some great Gelato at Santini Gelati, considered by many to be the best ice-cream in Portugal.  And then hop on the 403 bus to Pe da Serra and the 5 minute walk to Colina Flora.

“Naturpur, Meer und Mehr…

” so hat ein Gast sein Urlaub im herrlichem Sintra Naturpark, Portugal beschrieben.  Das “Mehr” hat sich auf unser  “gruenes”, kleines aber feines, Landgasthaus bezogen www.colinaflora.com  das im Herzen von diesem tollem Park gelegen ist.

Der Naturpark hat circa 14,500 ha und eine vielfaletige Naturlandschaft.  Felsige Meeresklppen, wunderschoene, verlassene Straende, dichter Wald, Huegel und  Taeler mit seltener Flora und Fauna, tolle historische Bauten  und  reizende, urige Doerfer.  Wanderwege erstrecken sich durch den  ganzen Sintra Naturpark, sodass man tagelang wandern kann.  Dieser Park ist wahrlich ein Besuch wert.  Man kann wochenlang zu Fusse unterwegs sein und immer wieder etwas Neues entdecken.   www.parquesdasintra.pt

Auch ist Portugal sehr preiswert.  Das Essen in den Restaurants die von den Einheimischen bescht werden ist gut und reichlich.  Die Leute sind freundlich und hilfsbereit.
